Dialyze Direct Acquires Affiliated Dialysis Centers to Become Largest SNF-Focused Provider

Dialyze Direct, LLC, acquired Affiliated Dialysis Centers in a deal expected to close by December 31, subject to customary closing conditions. The acquisition would make Dialyze Direct the largest home hemodialysis provider for skilled nursing facilities in the U.S., according to the company.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Medicare reimburses for dialysis services within the nursing home setting, and the Dialyze Direct-Affiliated deal comes as the SNF world prepares for the new Patient-Driven Payment Model, which was finalized in late July.  The model is expected to incentivize SNFs to add specialities and take on medically complex patients.

Dialyze Direct referenced the new incentives when announcing the deal, positioning its in-SNF services as a way for providers to take advantage of the new incentives.

Dialyze provides services in Florida, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, while Affiliated Dialysis is based in Illinois and has provided care in both that state and Ohio.

Dialyze provides dialysis care with treatment built around more frequent dialysis sessions, pursuant to a doctor’s order, to geriatric patients in SNFs. Affiliated provides dialysis services to more than 400 patients in outpatient, home, and skilled nursing settings.

Dialysis patients residing in SNFs in the U.S. account for between 10% to 15% of the total dialysis population in the country, Jonathan Paull, general counsel and chief compliance officer for Dialyze, told Skilled Nursing News.
