Bedrock Purchases Six Former ManorCare Facilities in Pennsylvania

Bedrock Care Group is in full growth mode, with its recent acquisition of six ManorCare skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers in Pennsylvania; the operator plans to buy more centers within the state too.

The eight-facility Royersford, Pa.-based management company announced the transaction on Tuesday, approximately doubling its employee count. With its acquisition, Bedrock now has roughly 2,500 employees.

Bedrock will retain existing staff and leadership at its new facilities.

Bedrock chief operating officer Jaime Verger told Skilled Nursing News the company also plans to enter the home health care and hospice service lines, in addition to purchasing more skilled nursing centers.

“For now we want to stick within the state. However, some of the acquisitions we are looking at are close by, in surrounding states,” said Verger. “I think for the future it’s something very important, not just as an organization and being able to provide that but for those we serve, the residents, it’s very important that they can age well.”

Bedrock rebranded each center in the 925-bed ManorCare portfolio across four counties in the state: Yeadon Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; Williamsport North Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; Williamsport South Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; Hampton House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; and Kingston Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

“These six facilities really fit into our current portfolio,” added Verger. “[ManorCare has] been working in the state for 25-plus years … they’re all close by our other facilities.”

ManorCare is owned by the nonprofit health system ProMedica in Toledo, Ohio.

“As a growing company, we focus on a better quality of care at the local level and are a true pillar for the communities we serve,” Jacob Zahler, chief executive of Bedrock, said in a statement. “This is an exciting time for Bedrock Care.”

The Northeast operator was founded two years ago; Bedrock aims to become the “premier post-acute and long-term care provider” in its communities, according to its mission statement. Services include ventilator, dialysis, wound care and dementia care.
