In the Pipeline: 104-Unit SNF Comes Online in Houston

Pi Architects, McDonnell Construction and Senior Care Excellence have put the finishing touches on Medical Resort at Willowbrook, a skilled nursing and rehab facility in Houston.

The SNF has 104 units, spans 59,000 square feet and provides post-acute nursing and rehab care, according to a press release. The facility is comprised of four small “houses,” each of which has its own living room and activity spaces.

The community includes Mediterranean-style design elements such as columns, a clay tile roof and a stucco finish. Another design flourish is an open-kitchen restaurant that allows residents to watch their meals being prepared.

Nursing Home Expansion Plan Irks Neighbors in Maine

Neighbors in Yarmouth, Maine, are speaking out about a proposal to expand Coastal Manor, a local nursing home.

Coastal Manor is seeking to expand its facility and move 39 nursing care beds to a proposed two-story, 21,000-square-foot addition, the Forecaster reported. Then, the existing building would be upgraded to house 25 assisted living beds.

Neighbors weighed concerns regarding the size, landscaping and safety of the project during a December planning meeting, however.

Ascension Living Buys Wisconsin Community With Plans for New SNF

One of the country’s largest non-profit senior care providers has purchased a memory care community in Wisconsin and is seeking to build a new skilled nursing facility (SNF) there.

Ascension Living recently signed a letter of intent to purchase Shorelight Memory Care in Racine, Wis., the Journal Times reported. As part of the acquisition, Ascension would move the skilled wing of its nearby senior care community, Lakeshore Manor, to a currently vacant SNF space owned by Siena on the Lake, Shorelight’s seller.

Kentucky Group Hopes to Pave Way for Veterans Home

A group called the Citizens for Veterans Health Care is pushing to bring a veterans home to Salyersville, Ky.

The group hopes to work with local legislators to get an 80-bed veterans home on the construction list for the area, according to an update on the Salyersville Independent.

Work to Start on Georgia Facility Next Year

Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is expected to break ground on a 229-unit senior care community with a skilled nursing component in Oconee County, Ga., next year.

R.W. Allen was recently named contractor for the project, while Precision Landscape Management is the landscaping firm, according to the Oconee Enterprise.
