Wyoming Lawmakers Mull Veteran Retirement Home

A new nursing home for veterans could open in Sheridan, Wyo.

The Wyoming Veterans Commission and the Legislature’s Joint Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee are discussing whether to build a 24-unit nursing home that would cost $5.78 million and open within five years, the Casper Star Tribune reported.

The commission proposed adopting the Green House model at the new facility, which is a concept that aims to make residents feel like they’re in a homelike setting as opposed to a clinical one.

Lawmakers cautioned the plan was still in its early stages.

Virginia Nursing Home Plotting Upgrades

A company that is purchasing a nursing home in Parksely, Va., has pledged to invest millions of dollars in upgrades.

The company, Smith/Packett Med-Com LLC, will purchase and then renovate the 136-bed Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center, according to Delmarvanow.com.

Plans for the renovation call for installing new flooring and ceiling tiles, covering cinderblock walls with drywall, putting in new furniture and equipment, and adding more private bathroom accommodations.

Texas City to Get New SNF

A new nursing home is in the works for the city of Smithville, Texas.

Local authorities have approved a design for a $10 million, 120-bed skilled nursing facility (SNF), reported the Statesman, a local news publication. Plans call for a dozen of those beds to focus on short-term rehab.

Work is expected to start on the new facility in February or March.

Long Island SNF Unveils Restorative Care Unit

The Brookhaven Health Care Facility in East Patchogue, N.Y., has unveiled a new TeliStat Restorative Care Unit, reported Long Island Business News.

Brookhaven is a 122-bed skilled nursing and rehab facility.

Canada Town to Add More Long-Term Care Beds

A town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland is on track to add dozens of new nursing beds.

A new 60-bed long-term care facility will be built in Grand Falls-Windsor, reported the Beacon. Another 20 beds will be added to the protective care section at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Centre in Botwood.

Work is slated to start in 2019, with an expected completion date in 2021.

Renovations Underway for Georgia SNF

A SNF in Ellijay, Ga., is on its way to open with a makeover in the beginning of 2018.

Crews are hard at work turning the Gilmer Nursing Home into Parkside Health Services, according to FetchYourNews.com. The improvements will include outpatient and short-term rehabilitation and an adult daycare center.
